Martin Smolár had found vulnerabilities in the Driver Execution Environment (DXE) driver. This bug could allow attackers to disable the Secure Boot by making modifications to NVRAM variables. Lenovo has responded to the research and published the following advisory details the flaws: “CVE-2022-3430: A potential vulnerability in the WMI Setup driver on some consumer Lenovo Notebook devices may allow an attacker with elevated privileges to modify secure boot setting by modifying an NVRAM variable....

“It uses two keys to protect your data – one key in your control, and a second key is stored securely in Microsoft Azure. “Viewing data protected with Double Key Encryption requires access to both keys. Since Microsoft can access only one of these keys, your protected data remains inaccessible to Microsoft, ensuring that you have full control over its privacy and security,” Microsoft says. While Double Key Encryption is arriving across Microsoft 365, it was designed for highly regulated sectors....

One report points to a new phishing campaign being sent to users of Microsoft services. The attack involves an email claiming to warn users about account hacks coming from Russia-supported groups. When the unsuspecting target interacts with the email, the attackers steal log in credentials and other personal information. Cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes discovered the spam email attack pretending to be warning of Russian hacks. These mails also pretend to be from Microsoft, leading with the subject line “Microsoft account unusual sign-in activity....

The startup may be the best fit for the giant’s vision so far. With a simple visual interface, it lets users build and train deep learning models without code. It builds on the TensorFlow and Keras deep learning models, allowing for advanced control on every layer. The hope is to bring deep learning to companies who can’t’ afford skilled engineers. In a blog post, Microsoft reveals it is snapping up Peer5 for an undisclosed amount to fold into the Microsoft Teams ecosystem. If you are unfamiliar with Peer5, it is a firm that has an Enterprise Content Delivery Network (eCDN) product on the WebRTC open source communication engine. The solution runs on a web browser to increase bandwidth, a useful tool when making video calls in a multi-participant meeting. The company has previously threatened to take its complaint to the European commission. While that remains an option, Kaspersky says he wants to see Microsoft’s response first: “They are listening to us and they made a few changes.
